WHY MARIA'S APPROACH WORKS

Most lawmakers treat health as something that only happens in hospitals. Maria knows better.

As a nurse, child advocate, and public servant, she understands that health is built into everything: whether you can afford time off when you're sick, whether insurance companies are price-gouging your medications, whether corporations dodge taxes that should fund schools, whether your data is sold without permission, whether your neighborhood has clean water and safe streets.

Maria connects the dots others miss. Paid leave saves lives. Tax fairness funds education. Digital privacy protects seniors from scams. Infrastructure investments reduce injuries.

Maria has spent her career listening to what people actually need. Health isn't an abstract policy—it's whether you can breathe easier knowing you'll be cared for, whether your family won't go broke from a medical emergency, whether someone in Harrisburg truly hears you and is fighting to build a future where your health, your dignity, and your security matter. That's the Montgomery County she's working to create. That's the Pennsylvania we all deserve.

Economic Security for Working Families

THE FAMILY CARE ACT
Maria has been fighting for paid family leave since 2019. No one should have to choose between caring for a new baby or sick parent and paying rent.

The Family Care Act would let workers take paid time off when they need it most. It covers care for a new child, a seriously ill family member, your own health emergency, or a military family member. Research shows paid leave reduces infant mortality, improves maternal mental health, and helps workers recover without falling into debt. Studies also show that strong paid leave policies improve employee retention, reduce turnover costs, and boost productivity, making them good for business as well.

STOP WALL STREET FROM BUYING UP NEIGHBORHOODS
Private equity firms are buying up single-family homes by the dozens, inflating rents, and pricing out families who want to build wealth through homeownership.

Maria's legislation limits tax breaks for Wall Street investors that purchase dozens of homes in Pennsylvania. Safe, stable housing isn't a commodity—it's how families put down roots and communities thrive.

PENNSYLVANIA PRO ACT
Strong unions built America's middle class. Maria's fighting to restore workers' rights to organize, bargain for fair wages, and demand safe workplaces—because economic security and workplace safety are health issues, not just labor issues.

DELIVERED: WORKING PENNSYLVANIANS TAX CREDIT
In the 2025-26 budget, Maria helped to secure the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit—putting up to $805 back in the pockets of nearly one million working families across Pennsylvania. Real money for groceries, gas, keeping the lights on.

DELIVERED: TRIPLED THE CHILD CARE TAX CREDIT
Maria fought to triple the Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit in the 2023-24 budget, giving working parents much-needed relief.

During her second term in office, Maria has delivered over $162.5 million to our county.
